The SecurityX exam (CAS-005) has a maximum of 90 questions with 165 minutes, using multiple-choice and performance-based items. Results are reported as pass/fail. Domain weights are: Governance, Risk, and Compliance (20%), Security Architecture (27%), Security Engineering (31%), and Security Operations (22%). SecurityX requires 75 CEUs for three-year renewal.
Security program documentation, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Program management, training, communication, reporting, RACI, frameworks such as COBIT and ITIL, and configuration-management foundations. Risk management, business impact analysis, qualitative vs. quantitative assessment, third-party risk, data governance, compliance strategies, threat modeling, attack-surface analysis, and security-framework mapping.
Cloud and hybrid security capabilities including shared responsibility, shadow IT detection, CASB approaches, CI/CD considerations, infrastructure as code, containers, orchestration, and serverless workloads. Cloud data-security risks such as exposure, leakage, remanence, insecure storage, and encryption-key concerns. Segmentation, microsegmentation, VPN and always-on VPN, API integration, secure zones, asset identification, attestation, SASE, SD-WAN, software-defined networking, and zero trust subject-object relationships.
Automation strategies using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, and Python together with event triggers, workflow automation, cloud APIs, SOAR, patching, and container-aware operational models. Engineering controls that support secure integration, resilience, and repeatable deployment across complex enterprise environments. Vulnerability-management workflows including scanning, prioritization, reporting, and the use of SCAP-aligned standards such as OVAL, XCCDF, CPE, CVE, and CVSS.
Advanced cryptography concepts including post-quantum cryptography, forward secrecy, key stretching, homomorphic encryption, hardware acceleration, and certificate-based trust. Cryptographic use cases for data at rest, in transit, and in use; secure email; privacy; blockchain-related concepts; and compliance-driven encryption decisions. Cryptographic techniques such as tokenization, code signing, digital signatures, hashing, cryptographic erase, and symmetric/asymmetric methods, tied back to enterprise engineering decisions and SecurityX-style scenarios.
Monitoring, SIEM data analysis, event parsing, retention, false positives/negatives, behavior baselines, correlation, prioritization, and enterprise detection use cases. Threat hunting using internal and external intelligence sources, IoC sharing, TIPs, STIX, TAXII, Sigma, YARA, and Snort; plus attack-surface weaknesses and mitigation strategies. Incident response, malware analysis, sandboxing, code and metadata analysis, root cause analysis, data recovery, integrated case studies, performance-based question practice, and final exam-readiness review.

SecurityX is the current CompTIA certification name for the expert-level credential that followed CASP+. The current exam version is CAS-005, and CompTIA states that the rebrand does not invalidate the status of existing CASP+ holders.
