The current Security+ V7 (SY0-701) exam is 90 minutes with a maximum of 90 questions, including multiple-choice and performance-based questions. The passing score is 750 on a scale of 100-900. The domain weights are: General Security Concepts (12%), Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Mitigations (22%), Security Architecture (18%), Security Operations (28%), and Security Program Management and Oversight (20%). Security+ certification is valid for three years.
Security controls and control categories; core principles such as confidentiality, integrity, availability, non-repudiation, and AAA; zero trust and deception concepts; change management processes; and cryptographic solutions including PKI, hashing, digital signatures, encryption, obfuscation, and blockchain use cases.
Threat actors and motivations; attack vectors and attack surfaces; application, cloud, virtualization, hardware, mobile, web, and supply chain vulnerabilities; malware, password, network, physical, application, and cryptographic attacks; and practical mitigation techniques such as segmentation, hardening, isolation, patching, and access control.
Secure design and deployment considerations across on-premises, cloud, hybrid, virtualization, IoT, ICS, and infrastructure-as-code environments; enterprise infrastructure protections; secure communication and access models; data protection concepts; classification and safeguarding of data; and resilience, recovery, backups, continuity of operations, and high availability.
Secure baselines and hardening; mobile, wireless, endpoint, and application security; asset management and lifecycle controls; vulnerability management; monitoring and alerting tools; firewalls, IDS/IPS, DNS filtering, DLP, NAC, EDR/XDR, and IAM operations; automation and orchestration concepts; incident response activities; digital forensics basics; and the use of logs and data sources in investigations.
Security governance, policies, standards, procedures, roles and responsibilities, and external considerations; risk identification and analysis; risk registers, appetite, and treatment strategies; third-party risk management; compliance and privacy considerations; audits, assessments, and penetration testing; security awareness activities; and final exam-readiness review covering performance-based questions, pacing, and test-day strategy.
