The AWS Solutions Architect - Associate (SAA-C03) exam has 65 questions with a 130-minute time limit (50 scored, 15 unscored). The minimum passing score is 720 on a scale of 100-1,000. Domain weights are: Design Secure Architectures (30%), Design Resilient Architectures (26%), Design High-Performing Architectures (24%), and Design Cost-Optimized Architectures (20%). Certification is valid for three years.
Shared responsibility model, AWS global infrastructure, identity and access design, IAM and IAM Identity Center concepts, account strategy, and organizational guardrails. Network security foundations using VPC design, routing, security groups, network ACLs, private/public subnet decisions, and secure connectivity options. Data protection strategies using encryption, key management, secrets handling, logging, and security controls for storage, databases, and application services.
High availability and fault tolerance using Multi-AZ design, elastic scaling patterns, load balancing, decoupling, and event-driven design. Backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity considerations using storage replication, snapshots, RTO/RPO thinking, and service-native resilience features. Designing loosely coupled and scalable architectures that reduce single points of failure and improve recoverability across application tiers.
Selecting appropriate compute options such as EC2, containers, serverless, and managed services based on workload patterns and operational constraints. Choosing storage, database, caching, and content delivery services to optimize throughput, latency, and workload efficiency. Using observability, performance tuning, service quotas, and architecture tradeoffs to support scalable and responsive solution designs.
Cost-aware service selection across compute, storage, networking, and databases, including pricing models, elasticity, and managed-service tradeoffs. Selecting storage classes, purchase options, and architectural patterns that align cost with usage patterns and business value. Using monitoring, right-sizing, tagging, budget awareness, and architectural simplification to support financially responsible solution design.
Cross-domain architecture scenarios that combine security, resilience, performance, and cost optimization into realistic solution design decisions. Service-comparison drills, whiteboard-style design discussions, and exam-style question review focused on selecting the best AWS answer for business and technical requirements.
