The AWS Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) exam is 90 minutes with 65 questions (50 scored, 15 unscored). The minimum passing score is 700 on a scale of 100-1,000. Domain weights are: Cloud Concepts (24%), Security and Compliance (30%), Cloud Technology and Services (34%), and Billing, Pricing, and Support (12%). Certification is valid for three years with a 14-day wait between retake attempts.
Cloud computing fundamentals, AWS value proposition, global infrastructure, shared responsibility overview, Well-Architected concepts, migration drivers, and cloud economics. Understanding elasticity, scalability, availability, fault tolerance, and the business case for consuming cloud services on demand. Establishing the terminology and mental models used throughout the rest of the course.
Security fundamentals in AWS, identity and access management concepts, least privilege, MFA, root user hygiene, and basic account governance. Core compliance, auditing, logging, and data protection ideas, including shared responsibility, encryption concepts, and high-level use of services such as IAM, Organizations, CloudTrail, Config, KMS, Shield, and WAF. Connecting AWS security concepts to governance, risk awareness, and operational accountability.
Core compute, storage, and database services, including when to use services such as Amazon EC2, Lambda, ECS/EKS at a high level, Elastic Load Balancing, Auto Scaling, Amazon S3, EBS, EFS, Glacier classes, RDS, DynamoDB, and Redshift. Understanding service categories, basic use cases, resilience patterns, and managed-service tradeoffs. Choosing the right service family for common workload patterns.
Networking, content delivery, integration, monitoring, and migration concepts, including VPC basics, Route 53, CloudFront, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, CloudWatch, Trusted Advisor, and migration/supporting services. High-level architectural patterns, observability concepts, and service selection for common customer scenarios. Reinforcing how AWS services work together in practical cloud environments.
AWS pricing concepts, billing models, free tier, total cost of ownership, billing tools, Budgets, Cost Explorer, support plans, Service Health Dashboard, and pricing/support decision factors. Integrated review that links cost, security, architecture, and service selection across all four exam domains.
