The AWS Certified Data Engineer - Associate exam (DEA-C01) has a 130-minute time limit, 65 questions (50 scored, 15 unscored), and multiple choice or multiple response format. Results are reported on a scaled score from 100 to 1,000 with a minimum passing score of 720. Domain weights: Data Ingestion and Transformation (34%), Data Store Management (26%), Data Operations and Support (22%), Data Security and Governance (18%).
Batch, streaming, and event-driven ingestion patterns; ETL and ELT fundamentals; orchestration concepts; pipeline stages; SQL and programming concepts relevant to data engineering. Choosing between service patterns for throughput, latency, schema evolution, and cost.
Choosing optimal AWS data stores based on workload requirements, structure, scale, consistency, and access patterns. Data lakes, warehouses, relational and nonrelational stores, schema design, partitioning, cataloging, and lifecycle planning.
Deep dive into data storage architecture decisions, data layout, retention, archival, and movement across storage tiers. Managing catalogs, metadata, and discoverability for governed data use.
Operationalizing, maintaining, and monitoring data pipelines using logging, metrics, alerting, observability, and troubleshooting practices. Validating data quality, handling failures, and optimizing cost and performance.
